K9 Tica Retires After Eight Years of Service
For eight years, K9 Tica has used her trusty sniffer to help keep Rocky Top safe. That’s 272 basketball games, 240 concerts, meets, and special events, and 192 football-related activities for the explosives detection dog. On March 28, K9 Tica will add another name to her title: retiree of the UT Police Department.
Simerly Selected for Scholarship to National Police Command School
UTPD Deputy Chief Emily Simerly has received a scholarship to attend a national management and leadership training program for senior level police staff. The intensive 10-week Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command aims to strengthen and deepen leadership at law enforcement agencies around the country.
UTPD Participates in Training Program to Increase Cultural Competency
UTPD officers have spent the week examining their perceptions, stereotypes and cultural assumptions as a way to better communicate with and serve all members of the Volunteer community. The new three-day certification training program, offered by the UT Law Enforcement Innovation Center, is designed to increase their cultural competency and reduce biased-based policing.
