TN Department of Safety Owner / Driver Form

Tennessee State Law, Section 55-12-104, requires either the driver or the owner of a vehicle in a traffic accident which results in death, injury or damage to the property of any one (1) person, including the operator, in excess of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500) to file an owner/driver report of the accident with the State of Tennessee within twenty (20) days of the accident.  Failure to file an Owner/Driver report can result in the suspension of driving privileges.

Your report must be submitted to the Department of Safety within twenty (20) days from the accident in order to avoid the proposed suspension of your driving and registration privileges. You can satisfy this requirement by downloading, printing out and completing the Owner/Driver Report Form and returning it to the Financial Responsibility Section.

Yes. UTPD Officers are state certified, commissioned officers. All officers complete a field training officers program after completing the academy. Additionally, they are required to successfully complete a minimum of forty hours of POST approved training each year. UTPD Officers have arrest powers, the ability to write citations, and other general police powers.

Our officers are state commissioned and may enforce laws, ordinances, or regulations in any area they patrol. The department restricts reports to the actual property that the university owns. Our officers will respond to any crime in progress and take appropriate action. We frequently assign officers to portions of the Fort Sanders community.
