Safety Reminders and Resources

As you adjust to a new semester, UT Public Safety wants to share some safety reminders and resources to help keep you and all Vols safe this spring.

Electronic Security:

VolCard identification cards have been updated and are now vertically printed. These updated VolCards are compatible with upgraded card readers on dorms and other buildings around campus. If you have any other VolCard versions they are now considered old and must be turned in to the university. To update your card, visit the Vol Card office.

Did you know you can add your VolCard to your smartphone and use your mobile device as your credential? Instructions are available online on how to add your VolCard to your iPhone Apple Wallet or Apple Watch.

Android mobile credential capability is coming soon.

As a reminder, do not prop open any building doors. This is especially important for exterior doors, doors to your dorms, and doors that require a VolCard or are electronically controlled. Keeping doors closed is one way to protect yourself and other Vols. It keeps out suspicious people and others who do not belong there.

Clery Compliance:

Curious about reported criminal incidents that happen on or near campus? Check out the university’s daily Crime Log. The log is updated every business day.

The UT Clery website also provides other resources to help you manage your own personal safety. It includes information such as Safety Notices that are issued by UT. You may also sign up for UT Alerts. The university uses the emergency messaging service to send texts to the campus community in the event that an incident poses a serious or continuing threat to campus safety

UT Police Department:

The UT Police Department is the university’s fully commissioned police force. UTPD’s 60 full time officers work around the clock every day of the year to ensure safety on campus and in the immediate surrounding area.

The department also offers in-person and virtual educational programs to the campus community.

To reach the UT Police Department, call 865-974-3114 or email utpolice@utk.edu.

LiveSafe:

LiveSafe, UT’s mobile safety app, offers tools and safety features such as the ability to send tips to UTPD and other campus departments. You can also use the SafeWalk feature to invite friends and family to walk with you virtually or ensure your friends arrive at their destination safely.
