#TimeWarpTuesday: A 1970s Band March

1970s UTPD cruiser leading the Pride of the Southland bandThe Pride of the Southland Band closed out the 2019 Tennessee Volunteers football regular season with one final march Saturday, November 30, prior to UT’s game against Vanderbilt University.

Leading them were several officers from the UT Police Department’s motorcycle unit.

In the 1970s, UTPD led the band with a different vehicle—a Nova cruiser. In this mid-1970s photo, the cruiser takes the band down Andy Holt at a time it was still open to vehicular traffic. The route went by what used to be University Center. That building was eventually demolished to make room for the new Student Union.
