Update Regarding Saturday Night’s Incident Near Campus

August 11, 2019

Late Saturday night, a group of juveniles committed multiple crimes in the Fort Sanders area near the University of Tennessee.

What we know currently from Knoxville Police Department—the agency working the case— is that only one of the four suspects involved in those crimes is in custody.

When Clery-reportable crimes occur on UT-owned property or adjacent to UT-owned property, we make every effort to notify the campus community so you can take precautions for your safety. The situation can rapidly change and the information available can change as well.

The university’s alert system is set up with a series of short scripts so we can get information out as soon as possible when a Clery-reportable incident occurs. The first set of alerts sent last night were released without the necessary details of the incident added to the preloaded script. We are working with our staff to address this issue.

For developments on the incidents from Saturday, follow Knoxville Police Department on Facebook and Twitter.
